Are there double-walled glasses with a handle?
The Thermic Glass range includes a 32 cl mug with a handle. The other models deliberately have none, because the insulating layer of air means the outer wall never gets warm enough to burn your fingers.
Which size of double-walled glass suits which coffee?
For espresso choose 6.5 to 8.5 cl, for cappuccino 11 to 15 cl and for regular coffee 22 to 30 cl. A latte macchiato with three visible layers needs at least 34 cl.
Are double-walled glasses dishwasher safe?
Yes, on a short glassware cycle and with space between the glasses. If water gets between the walls through the vent hole in the base, stand the glass upside down to dry for a day.
Can you pour boiling water into a double-walled glass?
Borosilicate glass barely expands when temperatures change, so boiling water is fine. Do pour slowly and into the middle, because the walls are thin and not tempered the way catering glass is.
Why does the drink appear to float?
The liquid only touches the inner wall, which sits a few millimetres inside the outer wall. That leaves a rim of clear glass around the drink, making it look as though it is hanging freely in the glass.
