Spoon the pulp from half a passion fruit into the shaker and add vodka, liqueur, lime juice and vanilla syrup.
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the outside becomes frosted.
Double-strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
Let the other half of the passion fruit float on the cocktail and serve a shot glass of ice-cold prosecco alongside it.

The story
Bartender Douglas Ankrah created this modern classic in 2002 for his London bar Townhouse. The name was pure provocation; according to Ankrah, it was simply 'a drink a pornstar would order', but the taste turned out to be seriously good: ripe passion fruit juice, vanilla and the dry counterpart to ice-cold prosecco. The cocktail conquered Great Britain first, then the rest of Europe. Twenty years later, it is on the menu at virtually every cocktail bar and is a fixture at weddings and parties.

The Pornstar Martini is a duo act: the cocktail itself shines in a coupe or martini glass, accompanied by a small shot glass of ice-cold prosecco. Choose a coupe from 22 to 26 cl so the floating passion fruit can steal the show, and pair it with sleek shot glasses of 6 to 8 cl. Variations & twists
Try replacing the prosecco with champagne for a luxurious version, or leave out the shot and pour the bubbly on top as a 'topped' variation. Pornstar Martini mocktail without alcohol
The 0.0 version works surprisingly well because the character of this cocktail mainly comes from the passion fruit and vanilla. Replace the vanilla vodka with 4 cl passion fruit juice and half a teaspoon of vanilla extract, leave out the Passoã and increase the vanilla syrup to 1.5 cl. Shake with the pulp of half a passion fruit and serve a shot of alcohol-free bubbly alongside it. The ritual remains exactly the same, and for most guests that is half the fun.
Without vanilla vodka or without Passoã
Don't have vanilla vodka at home? Place a split vanilla pod in a bottle of regular vodka for two to three days; it comes close to the store-bought version and is much cheaper. If you don't have Passoã, any passion fruit liqueur will work, or, in an emergency, use 2 cl of passion fruit juice with an extra half a centiliter of vanilla syrup. The cocktail will then be slightly fresher and less rounded, so taste it before serving.
Pornstar Martini as a dessert and tiramisu
The combination of passion fruit, vanilla, and prosecco works excellently in a dessert. For a Pornstar Martini tiramisu, dip ladyfingers in a mixture of passion fruit juice and a splash of Passoã instead of coffee, and mix mascarpone with vanilla syrup and a little lime zest. Finish with fresh passion fruit pulp. If you serve it in a coupe glass, it looks just like the cocktail, making it immediately clear at the table where the dessert comes from.
Batch ahead for a group
At a party or wedding, you don't want to shake twenty times. Mix vodka, liqueur, lime juice, vanilla syrup, and the passion fruit pulp in the right proportions in a bottle, shake well, and chill for at least two hours. Allow about 9 cl of the mixture per person. Add ice only when serving and shake two or three glasses at a time so the dilution is right. Pour in the shots of prosecco just before serving; otherwise, they will lose their bubbles.
Porn star martini or pornstar martini?
Both spellings are used: as two words, porn star martini, and as one word, pornstar martini. Its creator, Douglas Ankrah, originally named it Maverick Martini, but the name that stuck was porn star. In English-speaking bars, the same cocktail is also often listed as passion fruit martini. Same recipe, more discreet name.
