How do you salt the rim of a glass?
Turn only the outside rim of a clean, dry glass through the moisture compartment and then through the salt. Hold the glass at a slight angle so nothing sticks to the inside, because that falls into the drink and makes it salty.
Which rim mix suits a margarita?
Coarse sea salt is the classic, optionally mixed with lime zest. For something with more bite, a mix with chilli works well on a spicy version. Keep fine caster sugar for the sweet citrus drinks.
Can a glass rimmer go in the dishwasher?
Plastic models can usually go in on a short cycle. Bamboo and wood cannot: the heat and moisture loosen the seams. Wipe those with a damp cloth and let them dry completely afterwards.
Why is my salt or rim mix clumping?
Salt and sugar draw moisture out of the air and out of the wet compartment next to them. So make up small quantities, keep the compartments closed when the bar is shut and refresh the moisture every service.
