How long should a cocktail pick be?
Long enough to rest across the rim on both sides. If the pick sinks into the glass as soon as the ice shifts, it is too short and your garnish disappears below the surface.
Are cocktail picks dishwasher safe?
The stainless steel ones are. Copper picks should be washed by hand and dried straight away, because copper tarnishes from citrus acid and from contact with skin, and then takes on dark spots.
Why one or three olives and never two?
An odd number is bar practice that grew out of superstition and has simply become the norm. It helps in practical terms too: three olives fill the pick without the garnish pushing down into the glass.
Are reusable picks better than wooden ones?
In terms of hygiene, yes. Wood absorbs sugar and juice and starts to smell after an evening, while stainless steel and copper can be cleaned completely. On top of that, you do not have to keep reordering them.
