Which Barshine glass do I use for an Old Fashioned?
The 30.5 cl tumbler is the classic rocks size. It is wide enough to stir in the glass itself and low enough to squeeze the zest over the rim, so the oil lands on the surface of the drink.
What is the difference between the tumbler and the long drink glass?
The tumbler is low and wide and meant for spirits with or without ice. The 38 cl long drink glass is narrower and taller, which holds on to the carbonation longer. That makes it the better choice for mixed drinks with tonic or cola.
Why does Barshine have such a heavy base?
The thick base keeps the glass stable when you slide it across the bar, absorbs the impact when muddling and refracts the light. That makes the drink look livelier than it does in flat glass, which is clearly visible on a lit bar.
How do I keep the shine in the glasses?
Wash the glasses before sugar and syrup dry on, because a dried layer leaves a dull haze. Always rinse in clean water and stand the glasses upright to drip dry rather than drying them straight away.
