Aerator or decanter, which should I choose?
An aerating pourer mixes in air while you pour and works immediately, handy at the table. A decanter gives a young wine twenty to sixty minutes of air across a wide surface and, with older bottles, separates the sediment from the wine.
How long does an opened bottle stay good?
With an airtight wine stopper, stored upright and cool, a bottle keeps its flavour for roughly two to three days. That goes for red wine as well. For sparkling wine, use a clamp stopper that holds the carbonation pressure.
Can a decanter go in the dishwasher?
Better not. Rinse the decanter straight away with warm water and no washing-up liquid, because soap residue stays detectable and carries into the next bottle. Let it drain upside down on a stand so no moisture is left in the bowl.
Why do my wine glasses come out streaky?
Streaks come from limescale in the rinse water and from polishing cold glass. Polish glasses with a polishing cloth while they are still slightly warm, and hold the bowl rather than the stem to avoid breakage.
