What is Casamigos Mezcal?

Where the smoke comes from

Casamigos Mezcal is made from 100% espadín agave, which grows for eight to nine years in Oaxaca. After harvesting, the agave hearts are split and cooked for four to six days in earthen pits with hot volcanic rocks. The juice then ferments for two to eight days and is distilled twice in copper stills. This takes place in Santiago Matatlán, the village known as the heart of mezcal.

That cooking in the ground is precisely what sets it apart from Casamigos tequilas. While the Blanco, Reposado and Añejo are made from blue agave in Jalisco and are smooth and sweet, the Mezcal has a distinct smoky character, spiciness and black pepper. It is not tequila with a smoky flavor, but a distinctive agave spirit with its own origin.

Everything about Casamigos →
What percentage of alcohol is in Casamigos Mezcal?
Casamigos Mezcal contains 40% alcohol, just like the Casamigos tequilas.
What is the difference between Casamigos Mezcal and Casamigos tequila?
The tequilas come from Jalisco and are made from blue agave. The Mezcal comes from Santiago Matatlán in Oaxaca and is made from espadín agave, which is cooked for four to six days in earthen pits with volcanic rock. This makes it smoky and spicy, while the tequilas are smooth and sweet.
Why does mezcal taste smoky?
It is down to how the agave is cooked. The agave hearts are cooked for days in pits in the ground, heated with volcanic rock. The smoke infuses the agave and ends up in the drink.
How do you drink Casamigos Mezcal?
Neat at room temperature in small sips, or in cocktails such as the Negroni, Paloma or Spicy Margarita. Salt and lime are not necessary.
How many calories are in Casamigos Mezcal?
Casamigos Mezcal contains 222 kcal per 100 ml. A 3 cl glass neat contains approximately 67 kcal.
