The Pledge
The Pledge is a wine brand with wines from South Africa and Argentina. Each bottle bears a name that begins with "Our": Our Lekker Pinotage, Our Old Vines Chenin Blanc, Our 1000 Malbec. From fresh sauvignon blanc to a powerful pinotage made from dried grapes. Here you can read which wines are available, what they taste like and what to eat with them.
The Pledge and the regions behind it
The Pledge wines come from two countries and feature a few well-known grapes. We have a dedicated page about them.

About chenin blanc →Each wine has its own promise
The Pledge means "the promise". The brand brings wines from South Africa and Argentina together under one name, with a striking label and names that all begin with "Our". The name immediately tells you something about the wine: Our Stellie comes from Stellenbosch, Our Darling comes from the Darling area on the west coast, Our Barrels has been aged in wooden barrels and Our Old Vines comes from old grapevines.
Most of the wines come from South Africa: from Stellenbosch, the Coastal Region and the wider Western Cape. There, The Pledge makes sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, a blush and an orange wine made from viognier. Pinotage is also part of the range, the red grape developed in South Africa in the 1920s from pinot noir and cinsault. The two malbecs come from Mendoza in Argentina.
Our Passion stands out: a pinotage made from dried grapes, in the same way as an Italian amarone. This is called appassimento. The wine has 16.5% alcohol and some residual sweetness. With the malbecs, the number tells you something about the vineyard: Our 1000 comes from vineyards at least 1,000 metres above sea level, while Our 100 comes from vines that are at least 100 years old.

Sunny fruit and a fresh side
Fresh and fruity
The sauvignons are fresh and aromatic, with gooseberry and tropical fruit. Chenin blanc has melon and honey, while the chardonnay has vanilla. The blush is light, with strawberry and raspberry.
Ripe and spicy
Our Lekker Pinotage is soft with red fruit. Our Stellie and the malbecs are more powerful, with cassis, black cherries and spices. Our Passion is full-bodied and slightly sweet, with raisins and mocha.
Full-bodied and dry
The Orange Wine smells of apricot and orange peel and has light tannins, a little like a red wine. This makes it a good match for strongly flavoured food.
Average flavour profile of The Pledge. The sauvignons score higher on freshness and lower on power, while Our Passion scores higher on sweetness and power.
How to serve The Pledge
White, rosé and orange wine chilled, red just below room temperature. Take a little extra time with the powerful red wines.
White, rosé and orange served chilled
Serve the sauvignons, chenin blanc and blush at 8 to 10 degrees. Our Barrels Chardonnay and the Orange Wine can be served slightly warmer, around 10 to 12 degrees, so you can taste the oak and skins properly.
More about wine temperature →Red at 16 to 18 degrees
Serve Our Lekker Pinotage at around 16 degrees. Our Stellie, the malbecs and Our Passion can be served closer to 18 degrees. If the bottle is in a warm room, put it in the fridge for fifteen minutes.
More about wine temperature →Letting powerful wine breathe
Our Stellie, Our 100 Malbec and Our Passion become softer when they get half an hour of air. Pour them into a decanter or open the bottle well before eating. Our Passion is also delicious in a small glass after dinner.
Decanters →The Pledge at the table
With white, rosé, orange and red wine, you have a suitable bottle for almost every dish. A few combinations that work.
Fresh and Asian
With green salads, goat's cheese, shellfish, sushi or dishes with coriander. Chenin blanc also pairs well with satay and spicy dishes.
Creamy and spicy
Our Barrels with smoked salmon, grilled chicken or a mushroom quiche. The Orange Wine with curry, kimchi, octopus or roasted aubergine with miso.
Meat and Thai
Our Lekker Pinotage with red meat, game or poultry. Our Blush with Thai dishes and light summer snacks.
From the grill
With a thick steak, lamb, chorizo or stews with cloves and cinnamon. Our Passion pairs well with game or as a wine to enjoy slowly.
