What is amaretto?

Amaretto from Schiedam, with a hint of cognac

De Kuyper Amaretto is a liqueur based on almond, vanilla, lime oil, and caramel, supported by a hint of cognac. Almond takes center stage; the vanilla and caramel make it rounded, while the lime oil keeps it fresh. The cognac provides a warm foundation that is most noticeable in the finish.

At 30% ABV, it is stronger than many Italian amarettos; Disaronno, for example, is 28%. You notice it in cocktails: an Amaretto Sour with De Kuyper is less sweet and slightly more powerful. De Kuyper itself calls it a delicious digestif on its own, so it is also good to drink neat after a meal.

All about De Kuyper →
What percentage of alcohol is in De Kuyper Amaretto?
30%. That is slightly more than Disaronno, which is 28%.
What is the difference between De Kuyper Amaretto and Disaronno?
Disaronno comes from Saronno in Italy and gets its almond flavor from apricot kernel oil. De Kuyper Amaretto comes from Schiedam, is made with almonds, vanilla, lime oil, caramel and a hint of cognac, and at 30% is slightly stronger.
How do you make an Amaretto Sour with De Kuyper?
Shake 40 ml De Kuyper Amaretto, 20 ml lime juice and the white of one egg with ice. Pour into a tumbler and garnish with a cocktail cherry.
Can you drink amaretto neat?
Yes. De Kuyper itself describes it as a digestif to enjoy on its own: drink 3 cl after a meal, at room temperature or with an ice cube.
How long does amaretto last after opening?
Due to its 30% alcohol content, a properly sealed bottle stays good for a long time. Store it in a cool, dark place; after being open for a long time, it does lose some aroma.
